Mathematics Achievement Academies (MAA)

 
 

The student curriculum for MAA is based on the ACCLAIM – Alameda County Collaborative for Learning and Instruction in Mathematics – program.  ACCLAIM focuses on state and national standards, district-adopted and state-approved textbooks, and research-based best practices in mathematics.  ACCLAIM, as a partnership between CSUEB, the Alameda County Office of Education, and Chabot College, has provided content-focused mathematics professional development to over 6000 teachers since its inception in 2000.  The ACCLAIM leadership team consists of Phil Gonsalves, Executive Director, and Hilda Aguilar, Drew Kravin, and Eric Suess, Co-Directors.  ACCLAIM offers summer institutes each year, as well as grant-based institutes and coaching support.  More information can be found at:

•Five-week summer program for students entering Grade 9 Algebra I

•Tutoring and mentoring provided by CSUEB college student mentors

•Friday field trips and Parent University Nights

•20 academies in 9 districts throughout the East Bay in Summer 2010


A Three-year Commitment!

This program will not only support students as they enter Algebra I, but will also support them as they complete the following years’ mathematics coursework (Geometry and Algebra II), through additional summer and school year programs in 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13. And each year, a new cohort of students will begin!
